Depicting an adult koala sitting on a branch of a eucalyptus tree surrounded by gum leaves, the coin’s reverse also includes the inscription AUSTRALIAN KOALA, The Perth Mint’s ‘P’ mintmark and the 2013 year-date.
Both sides of the coin are minted on concave surfaces to ensure the optimum flow of metal is achieved by the strike of the die.
AUSTRALIAN LEGAL TENDER
Issued as legal tender under the Australian Currency Act 1965, the coin’s obverse depicts the Ian Rank-Broadley effigy of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II, the year-date and the monetary denomination.
